The Ca’D’Zan (“House of John”) is the former residence of John and Mable Ringling located at the current site of the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. Funded by the State of Florida, the historic residence underwent an extensive $8,000,000 restoration and renovation in an effort to preserve its artistic qualities and characteristics that give the structure a truly unique identity.
During preservation and construction activities, concerns arose over the presence of asbestos and possible related contamination within the facility. GLE conducted an investigation into this claim, which confirmed that there was asbestos present and that dust contamination was prevalent throughout the facility.
GLE provided design and contract administration for asbestos abatement. Due to the unique and irreplaceable finishes and furnishings of the residence, GLE worked closely with the restoration contractors and museum curators to develop work procedures to ensure that the remedial efforts would not damage the structure or furnishings.
